Boy problems!?

This is for my mate: I have liked this boy for ages. and he strung me along for months. and finally i got a new boy.friend and he got kicked out of skwl so i neva saw him an gt ovaa him. then a few months later he suddenly got in touch askin me to meet him and so i did and we had laugh and he was flirting alot but we didnt talk much about us, i saw him around after that but nuffin much happend. I also heard that he tryed to kill himself and he was getting his mate to ask me if i was scared and if i cared if he was dead. We then chatted on the phone for a few weeks but then i didnt hear from him agen.Then i got a text at the weekend from his best mate sayin he may ask me out but he hasn't and i am going to meet up with him at the weekend, should i ask him out, or should i just let him come round?
