Why is acetylacetonate soluble in water?

why is acetylacetonate soluble? pentane-2,4-dione (acetylacetone) is insoluble in water but it loses a hydrogen when NH3 is added causing it to form acetylacetonate (acac) which is soluble in water. What causes acetylacetonate to be soluble in water?
