My father has recieved a jury duty summons, he is disable, has had heart problems. can he get out jury duty?

His doctor, has written him a letter to take to courthouse, but they say he has to still show up. He is on medication that has him going to bathroom alot, can;'t sit for long period of time, due to blockage in legs. So why soes he still have to show up???
