I am going to be taking photos this weekend and need some advice...?

I will be taking photos this weekend at a horse show at the fair. It will be in a poor lit area and I have a kinds crappy little canon point and shoot. What settings can I use to tak good pictures(preferably without using flash...idk if its allowed) and get good, clear pictures? Thanks!
